For over two decades Peter Hunt selflessly volunteered his time and expertise as a Board member
of the Bendigo Regional YMCA.
Peter had a deep respect for everyone, in particular young people, and would always give everyone
a chance. He was a Physical Education Teacher for 40 years, 37 of those with Weerona College
( formerly White Hills SC ) and in his retirement was still involved with Bendigo Senior Secondary
as a Wannik tutor (tutor for indigenous students) and was part of the VFL travelling program.
Peter was well known for his association with football and the local triathlon community.
In addition to athletics Peter was a senior football coach at Sandhurst Football Netball Club in
1989 and 1990, and at Eaglehawk Football Netball Club for two years in the 1990s. He played the
majority of his senior football with South Bendigo Football Netball Club, as well as in the Loddon
Valley Football Netball League.
YMCA Board Member Peter Hunt tragically passed away in March 2016. The Board and staff of
Bendigo Regional YMCA will forever cherish the memories of Peter and want to ensure through
the scholarship, that Peter’s commitment to physical education and helping others achieve their
sporting dreams, endures.
